Los Angeles, USA - (Reuters). The American cyclist Lance Armstrong continues to recover from surgery which was referred on Wednesday to stabilize his clavicle after fracture.

Seven-times Tour de France, who has placed a stainless steel plate and 12 screws during the operation, broke his collarbone in four parts after a fall suffered on Monday in the first stage of the Tour of Castilla and León .

After leaving the English race, Armstrong, 37, returned to the U.S. to have surgery in Austin, Texas.

Although the fracture he suffered was more serious than expected and required an operation "demanding" his surgeon said he was confident that the rider could re-do a light training in about a week.

"The goal of our surgery was to stabilize the fracture as soon as possible and safely, and then let Lance do what he does best," said Dr. Doug Elenz in a teleconference.

The doctor explained that Armstrong would make light exercise with a bicycle to allow heal the wound caused by the operation and stressed that as the weeks pass, its activity would increase.
